On Thursday, Osun State University, Osogbo (Uniosun), took the decision to indefinitely suspend Ahiante Victory, a student of the institution, due to her involvement in robbing her social media boyfriend.
Victory, along with two other suspects, was apprehended and presented to the police command headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday for orchestrating the robbery of her social media acquaintance. It was revealed that she enticed the man from Lagos to Ikire, where she collaborated with the other suspects to assault and rob him of N1.5 million.
During a press conference held at the university’s main campus on Thursday, Professor Clement Adebooye, the Vice Chancellor, addressed the media, stating that the university had suspended Victory in accordance with its regulations.
“We have called this press conference to provide clarification regarding one of our students named Ahiante Victory Ehiremen, with Matriculation Number 2022/42652, who is currently in police custody for alleged involvement in a conspiracy that led to the robbery of a Lagos-based businessman. Prior to her arrest on July 11th, 2023, she was a first-year student in the Department of English and Literary Studies,” said Professor Adebooye.
“The case involving Ahiante Victory Ehiremen has come as a shock to us, given that she is in her first year of study. We received a security report regarding her case, and based on the official information available, the police authorities have established allegations of conspiracy and robbery against her. Consequently, she remains in police custody for further investigation and prosecution.”
“Ahiante Victory Ehiremen’s alleged involvement in criminal activity violates her matriculation oath. She has provided a written statement, which the university has evaluated in conjunction with the intelligence report at hand. Therefore, the university authorities have decided to place Ms. Ahiante Victory Ehiremen on indefinite suspension in accordance with the regulations governing studentship, pending the resolution of her case in accordance with the laws of the Federation,” he concluded.
