France striker Wissam Ben Yedder, who plays for Monaco, is currently under investigation following an accusation of rape, as confirmed by Nice’s public prosecutor to AFP on Thursday.
The alleged incident occurred on Monday in the town of Beausoleil, located just north of Monaco on the Cote d’Azur.
Public prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme stated that there are “two allegations of rape, from two victims, targeting two people.” He further mentioned that the identity of the second person involved is unknown.
According to reports from France Info radio station, two women, aged 19 and 20, have accused Ben Yedder and his younger brother of coercing them into engaging in sexual acts after a night out.
Ben Yedder, 32, last represented France in June 2022 and recently participated in Monaco’s pre-season training.
Monaco issued a statement in response to the situation, stating, “Monaco became aware of the information published today regarding Wissam Ben Yedder. As the matter is undergoing a judicial process, the club is unable to provide any comment.”
Earlier in April, Ben Yedder had been found guilty of tax fraud by a Spanish court during his tenure at Sevilla, resulting in a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 133,798 euros ($149,753).
