Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, returned to Nigeria yesterday after a 32-day vacation in all three countries following the completion of the 2023 presidential elections, claiming he is strong and ready to hit the ground running.
Tinubu, who arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja with his wife, Oluremi, and son, Seyi, was greeted warmly by supporters, stalwarts, and members of his ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, including members of the now-dissolved Presidential Campaign Council, PCC.
Tinubu spent his holiday in London, Paris, and Saudi Arabia, where he performed the lesser Hajj.
Thousands of supporters as well as journalists gathered outside his campaign headquarters in Abuja’s Central District and the Defence House in Maitama, Nigeria’s official house, as he was led from the airport to his residence in Asokoro.
According to a statement signed by Tunde Rahman from the Office of the President-elect, among those waiting for him at the airport were Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima, House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Governors Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Abubakar Sani-Bello (Niger), and former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff.
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission; Senator Abubakar Kyari, APC Deputy National Chairman, North; Mr Emma Eneukwu, APC Deputy National Chairman, South; and Dr. Betta Edu, National Woman Leader, were also present at the airport.
Senators Barau Jibrin, Adeola Olamilekan, Opeyemi Bamidele, Dayo Adeyeye, Sabi Abdullahi, and Adelere Oriolowo were also there, as was Mr. James Faleke, secretary of the recently dissolved Presidential Campaign Council. Mr. Babajimi Benson and Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the former APC Presidential Campaign Council’s Director of Media and Publicity, were also there.
Tinubu says, “I’ve rested, refreshed, and am ready for the tasks ahead.”
“I am happy to be back,” the President-elect told the mob that had followed him home. I’ve taken a break. I’m recharged and ready to tackle the work at hand. Forget what the gossip mill may have told you. “I am extremely strong.”
When asked about his goals for the country, he said he had been consulting and planning in order to put together a solid team that would allow him to hit the ground running once he takes office on May 29.
