Tony Ehilebo, the PDP’s director of digital media, has raised alarm over the confrontation between Senator Dino Melaye and Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State.
Dino was verbally attacked a few days ago when the governor of Rivers State blocked his bid to secure the party’s nomination for the November 11 governorship election.
According to DAILY POST, Wike stated during a press conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that Dino Melaye is ineligible to serve as governor of Kogi State, claiming that the former congressman lacks the necessary qualifications.
Wike, the head of the G-5 governors, emphasized that winning the gubernatorial election is not accomplished by putting out a drama on television, in contrast to their failure to endorse Atiku Abubakar during the presidential election.
He remarked, “You know Dino will fail; there is no way he can win the gubernatorial ticket. Why would Kogi residents claim to support a politician like Dino?
Dino does not qualify to serve as governor or as governor of the state since he is from Kogi, thus people cannot vote for him. It’s not through being dramatic or disparaging about Wike on television.
In support of the governor’s position, the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State poked fun at Dino, stating that he would soon learn that “khaki no be leather.”
In an interview with media, PDP Director of Publicity for the state, Ogbonna Nwuke, compared Dino Melaye to a wet doll and predicted that the former congressman would learn his lesson after the election.
Melaye, for his part, attacked the governor and said that their disagreement stemmed from Wike’s failure to serve as Atiku’s running mate in the election.
Dino said that the sole reason Wike was opposing him and Atiku was that the latter had chosen Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa as his running partner in defiance of Wike’s entreaties.
Dino claims that during the course of two hours, Wike contacted him around 19 times, pleading with him to persuade Atiku to name him as the vice presidential candidate.
Ehilebo said on Friday that Governor Wike lacked the authority to meddle in the Kogi State election because it was a domestic matter.
Wike’s statements and flamboyant behavior in the party were criticized by Ehilebo, who asserted that it is illogical to think that Wike “can misbehave and nobody can call him to order.”
Is Wike from Kogi State? Thinking he can stop Dino is odd, he said. What gave him the right to phone media outlets and disparage a candidate from his own party? What made that necessary?
“He should be aware of how to help someone in Kogi State if he has problems or wants to do so. It is not feasible for him to behave badly and have no one call him to order.
Dino himself ought not to have responded. He might have made a statement, but he shouldn’t follow Wike’s lead.
“The Kogi problem is internal; Wike should empower someone in the state who can stand out for him, not himself, if he wishes to endorse a candidate. This is a slight against the Kogi people.
