Defense Chiefs from Mali, Niger, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso, and Guinea are noticeably absent from the ongoing meeting in Abuja.
On the other hand, Defense Chiefs from Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Senegal, The Gambia, Cote D’Ivoire, and Cape Verde are present at the meeting, taking place at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Presided over by the Nigeria Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the meeting commenced at 12:30 pm.
The meeting comes after the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) issued a seven-day ultimatum following the military coup in Niger Republic. General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the Commander of Niger’s Presidential Guards, toppled the democratically elected government in the country last Friday.
