Due to the scarcity of new naira, many commercial sex workers in the Federal Capital Territory have complained about low income in their business.
The scarcity of the notes, according to some of them who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday, constituted a threat and had destroyed their businesses.
Notwithstanding the fact that the currency swap policy was commendable, they claimed that the way it was currently being implemented created problems for their business.
Commercial sex worker Miss Alexandra Tricia (pseudonym) claimed that the current “no cash syndrome” has significantly reduced her customers.
She characterized the development as slow for the business and frustrating.
“There is no cash around, therefore the business isn’t thriving like it used to.
Some of my clients will visit and, following agreements, inquire as to if I have an account through which they may send me money.
They will press their phones and tell me that they have moved some money when I give them the account number.
The worst aspect about it is that most of the time, you won’t receive your own alert while you will see theirs on their phones. When you reject them, some of them may start causing difficulty. They will want you to start the service right away without giving you an indication.
In reality, a client submitted a transfer notice to one of her coworkers, but the money hasn’t arrived yet, despite the fact that she has helped the man, she claimed.
Another sex worker, Miss Ifedi Ote (pseudonym), a university dropout, claimed that many of her coworkers had temporarily quit the business as a result of the current financial crisis. She said that because of the change, clients who were short of cash had to pay “nearly nothing” for their services. “Clients with cash will offer you prices between N1,500 and N3,000.”
If you reject, they’ll say that they have a limited amount of cash on them, and because I need cash, I’ll have to accept the price.
Even the Point of Sale agent, who is typically the one we refer our customers to for payments, has suddenly run out of cash for the past two weeks.
Although the strategy’s primary objective is to reduce crime, she claimed that the banks are not doing a good job of putting it out.
Tracy Ehigbere, a different commercial sex worker, urged the appropriate authorities to address the issues regarding the cash swap policy right away.
