The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured the National Youth Service Corps members that participated in the Presidential and National Assembly elections that their allowances will be paid.
This was revealed to our correspondent by Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Principal Press Secretary to INEC Chairman.
A corps member complained on social media on Wednesday that corps members serving in Enugu State had not received their election allowance and would thus be unable to vote in Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections.
In response, Oyekanmi stated that funds were already with its state offices and encouraged corps members to be patient throughout the process.
“Adequate provision has been made for all National Youth Service Corps members and other ad hoc staff engaged for the 2023 General Election in accordance with their allowances,” he said.
“In fact, at the Commission’s meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners on Monday, the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu urged the RECs to ensure that all ad-hoc staff are paid all the allowances due to them. The allowance funds are already in our separate state offices. If there are payment delays, they’re likely caused by minor administrative issues.
“We ask all corps members who were lawfully engaged who worked on Election Day and may have not been paid to kindly be patient. They will receive their pay.”
