The federal government stated that no agreement had been reached with state governors on fuel subsidy palliatives.
Clem Agba, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, told State House Correspondents on Wednesday that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, presided over this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting.
The Federal Government stated that it has yet to coordinate efforts with states to take palliative measures ahead of the June 2023 deadline for the end of the petrol subsidy scheme.
Nonetheless, it stated that as the administration winds down, concerned committees would shortly conclude discussions with key stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the minister stated that a committee led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the National Economic Council, composed of state governors, had been working for over a year to resolve the problem.
Throughout this time, he claims, the committee has yet to harmonise its templates.
“So, the stage that we are now in is how to finalize the suggestions that have come out from both the Federal Government and the governors,” he explained.
“As you know, it is something that will affect the entire country. “All they have to do is make sure that everyone is carried along, both the federal and sub-national governments,” he continued.
