Dave Umahi, the Minister for Works, has pledged to redesign the Lokoja-Ajaokuta Express road due to its significant role as a vital link between the Northern and Eastern regions of Nigeria. This commitment was made during his inaugural official visit to Kogi State.
Governor Bello had highlighted the road’s importance as a major connection between the North and South, prompting Umahi to make this promise. The minister expressed appreciation for the warm welcome he received from the governor and commended his dedication to improving Kogi State.
Umahi acknowledged the state of federal roads and the government’s comprehensive efforts to transform them. He disclosed plans for the construction of long-lasting, low-maintenance concrete roads. He assured that federal road projects in Kogi State would make swift progress under his supervision.
Furthermore, Umahi revealed that the Federal Government is considering adopting innovative concrete road construction techniques. These concrete roads offer the advantage of minimal maintenance costs and a lifespan of over 50 years without needing substantial upkeep. He also pointed out that concrete roads are more cost-effective in terms of both construction and ensuring the availability of construction materials.
Umahi committed to redesigning the Lokoja-Ganaja-Ajaokuta Road and commended the governor’s efforts in maintaining roads. During his visit, he inspected other federal road projects, including the reconstruction of the Gada-biu bridge, the Abaji section of the Abuja-Lokoja Road, Koto-Karfe Bridge, and Murtala Muhammed Bridge.
Governor Yahaya Bello expressed optimism about the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the nation’s road infrastructure. He conveyed gratitude for Umahi’s proactive approach in assessing deteriorating federal roads in the state and appreciated the minister’s dedication to resolving pressing infrastructure challenges.
Governor Bello recognized the difficulties faced by commuters, the negative impact on trade and the economy, and the strain on transportation systems due to the poor road conditions. He thanked both President Bola Tinubu and the minister for recognizing these challenges and pledging prompt interventions to address them.
The governor highlighted the collaborative efforts between federal and state governments in tackling infrastructure issues as a hallmark of effective governance. He also expressed confidence in the transformative potential of the president’s “Renewed Hope” agenda for the nation’s economy and citizens’ well-being.
He believed that the urgent interventions promised by the minister would be a turning point for citizens who frequently use these roads.
