Despite the order issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, the Department of State Services (DSS) has returned the suspended governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, to custody.
Earlier, the court had granted bail to Emefiele after he pleaded not guilty to the two counts charge related to the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. However, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, who granted the bail, ordered that Emefiele be remanded in prison until he fulfills his bail conditions.
Following the court’s decision, officials from the DSS and the Nigerian Correctional Services engaged in a physical altercation over who would transport Emefiele from the court. After a tense confrontation, officials of the DSS were able to take the suspended governor of the apex bank away from the court a few minutes ago.
