The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a major drug syndicate and seized a significant haul of Cannabis Sativa. The Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Sadiq Maigatari, revealed this in a statement released on Tuesday.
The operation, which took place at Garindau near the bridge of Wudil in the Wudil Local Government area of Kano State, resulted in the seizure of 116 bags of cannabis, weighing a total of 1,553.1 kg. The confiscated stash included 50 bags of compressed cannabis, each containing 25 blocks, summing up to 1,250 blocks, as well as 66 bags of loose quantities of the drug.
According to Maigatari, the success of the operation was due to a well-coordinated surveillance effort based on vital intelligence reports and the effective coordination of resources and personnel. The officers had been diligently working on the case for two months and were able to track and intercept the drugs, which were being transported from Lokoja to Jigawa.
During the operation, two suspects were apprehended: Jonathan Nuhu, a 45-year-old from Kanke village in Plateau State, and Muhammad Abubakar, an 18-year-old from Kumbotso local government area of Kano State. Both individuals are believed to be part of a larger drug syndicate involved in transporting cannabis to northern Nigeria and distributing it to various dealers.
The arrest is a significant accomplishment in the ongoing efforts of the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and protect public safety. It represents a major blow to the illegal drug trade and disrupts the supply chain for distributing drugs in Kano and neighboring states.
Despite the success of the operation, two other suspects managed to evade capture at the point of arrest and are currently at large. The NDLEA continues its efforts to bring these criminals to justice.
The statement commended the diligence and bravery of the NDLEA officers on the front lines of the fight against drug trafficking. The Kano State Command, under Abubakar Idris Ahmad, remains committed to its mission of upholding the law and protecting the people of Kano State.
