The Nigeria Police Force is taking steps to enhance proactive policing and address kidnapping, insurgency, and other criminal activities in the country by repositioning its technical intelligence capabilities. This was revealed by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Adebowale Williams, during his visit to the Niger State Police Command in Minna, the state capital.
AIG Williams assured that efforts are being made to improve response time, intelligence gathering, and overall visibility in policing across the country. He emphasized the commitment of the Nigerian police to eradicate all forms of criminality, including cybercrime, and mentioned the establishment of a cybercrime unit to tackle such offenses.
Williams cautioned police personnel to uphold their duty to protect citizens and warned against any abuse of power, stating that those found guilty would face the consequences of the law. He encouraged the command to align its actions with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu and assured that the welfare of police officers is receiving utmost attention to boost their morale and confidence.
The AIG praised the state’s commissioner of police for recent successes in combating crime and appreciated Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for the donation of vehicles to facilitate transportation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogundele Ayodeji, highlighted the challenges faced by the command, particularly insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping in villages bordering Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara States. He also mentioned youth restiveness in certain areas and highlighted the command’s efforts in arresting and prosecuting individuals responsible for disturbing the peace in the metropolis.
The interactive session was attended by officers and personnel from sister security organizations and stakeholders.
