Provision of stomach infrastructure surest way to combat insecurity – Peter Obi

On Thursday, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), expressed his belief that addressing poverty and youth unemployment through the provision of stomach infrastructure is the most effective approach to combatting insecurity in Nigeria. Obi conveyed this message in a statement posted on his verified Twitter account.

He emphasized the need for all levels of government to take deliberate actions to alleviate poverty and youth unemployment, as he believes that providing stomach infrastructure is a more certain way to tackle insecurity. He further called for urgent measures to alleviate the hardships faced by the people.

Obi expressed deep concern about the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, deeming it unacceptable for the lives of Nigerians to be lost due to insecurity. He urged security agencies to intensify their efforts in safeguarding the nation, stating that it is unacceptable for Nigerians to be killed in their own country.

According to Obi, an insecure environment has far-reaching implications for development, as potential investors will be hesitant to invest in a country where their resources are not safe and secure.

He appealed to critical stakeholders, including traditional, Christian, and Muslim leaders, to continue promoting peace among their communities through their conduct and actions.

Obi stressed that the increasing insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the North Central zone and the disruptions of business and social activities in the Southeast, are worrisome. He cited reports of violent attacks, kidnapping, arson, and loss of lives in the North Central states of Benue and Plateau. He also highlighted the alarming number of casualties and abductions recorded in the first quarter of the year, emphasizing the urgent need to address these issues.

The former governor expressed concern about the disruption of activities in the Southeast attributed to the Sit-at-Home directive, which the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) publicly denied issuing. He deemed such activities as criminal and emphasized the importance of collective efforts from both security agencies and the people to address the situation.

Obi praised the renewed efforts of the South East Governors in combating the menace, but called for a more strategic and intelligence-driven approach to alleviate the suffering of innocent people.

He emphasized that security agencies should take swift action to curb these incidents, as the country cannot continue to lose innocent lives. Obi also emphasized the need for governments to prioritize the value of human lives in their responses to issues affecting lives.

He concluded by reiterating that an insecure environment has detrimental effects on development, as it discourages potential investors from contributing to the country’s progress.
