The Nigerian military has stationed troops at Anambra State’s entry and departure points, notably in and around Onitsha.
After unknown gunmen kidnapped a Nigerian Navy operator, soldiers are checking cars and scouring sites.
Lieutenant IS Ozuowa was taken on Sunday at 6:30 p.m., along with an unknown number of civilians.
He was in route from Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) OLOGBO.
Last Friday, the officer was discharged to attend his Long Course program.
A military official revealed that Ozuowa and others were ambushed in Onitsha’s Upper Iweka neighborhood.
“Our own Quick Response Force (QRF) was promptly sent. “Efforts to rescue the officer are underway,” a source informed PRNigeria.
Ozuowa transmitted a distress message to Slt Bomadi, the Base Operations Officer of Naval Outpost (NOP) Onitsha, at the time of the occurrence.
The superior then issued a warning to military forces stationed at checkpoints along various roads to be on the lookout.
