The formation of a “Jagaban Army” for Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2023 election has been harshly denounced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the PDP, the “dangerous militia” organized for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate confirms the APC’s plan to unleash violence and disrupt the votes.
APC Youth Leader, Dayo Israel on Monday stated the branding was guided by the “popular viewing of political canvassers as root warriors”.
Last Friday, Israel introduced himself as “The Wing Marshal of the APC National Youth Wing; and Chief of Army Staff of the Jagaban Army” while dressed in military garb.
Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement that the party has previously warned the public about secret plans for the elections.
Ologunagba urged on the security authorities to place APC leaders on watch list and take urgent action “to halt their nefarious plot”.
“The establishment of this hazardous militia is part of a sequence of schemes and moves in accordance with Asiwaju Tinubu’s command in London to members of the APC to capture power by all means,” he said.
The spokesperson also mentioned Tinubu’s words in a video of his meeting with supporters.
“Political power will not be offered at a restaurant, nor will it be provided a la carte. “It’s what we’re doing; it’s being determined; you do it at whatever cost; fight for it, grab it, take it, and run with it,” the former Lagos governor urged the audience.
There are fears “that the APC has been recruiting, training, and arming thugs and terrorist groups in secret sites around the country, as well as storing munitions,” according to the PDP.
The opposition asked that President Muhammadu Buhari to “take urgent action to ensure Asiwaju Tinubu and the APC do not destroy our democracy simply because they have been rejected by Nigerians”.
