Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday revealed that the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd. (CCECC) has made a commitment to complete the Abuja light rail project by May 2024.
In a statement by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, it was mentioned that Shettima secured this commitment during a courtesy call on the vice president by the management of CCECC, led by its Chairman, Mr. Jason Zhang, at the presidential villa.
Shettima emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s administration’s strong determination to enhance infrastructure development throughout the nation. He underscored the significance of the Abuja rail project, along with other infrastructure endeavors, to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian populace.
Shettima recognized CCECC as an integral part of Nigeria’s history, acknowledging the pivotal role the Chinese construction giant has played in the development of landmark projects in Nigeria. He lauded their commitment to Nigeria’s and Africa’s development.
Highlighting the company’s longstanding presence in Nigeria, Shettima commended CCECC for its continued support and non-interference in local politics, expressing deep appreciation for this approach.
Shettima assured CCECC of the administration’s dedication to sustaining the existing relationship between Nigeria and the company and with the people of China.
The Managing Director of CCECC, David Waig, reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to delivering the Abuja light rail project as scheduled. Waig urged the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to engage an operational company to facilitate the smooth commencement of the rail project.
Also in attendance at the meeting were the Deputy Managing Directors of the company, Mr. Jaques Liao and Mr. Inain Guo, as well as the General Manager (Business) of the company, Mr. Eric Yu.
