Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has issued a challenge to leaders in Owerri Zone, urging them to unite and form a cohesive front with the aim of succeeding him in 2027, following the completion of his second term in office.
Governor Uzodimma reiterated his commitment to upholding the Imo Charter of Equity during an endorsement rally organized by Owerri Zone youth and women on October 27, 2027, at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square, New Owerri. He recognized the significant support his administration has received from Owerri Zone during his re-election.
He emphasized that the Imo Charter of Equity was established to promote unity, peace, and fairness among all zones, and he pledged to use his office and political connections to uphold it. The governor called on the zone to unite for the purpose of attracting local and foreign investments to the region, which he believes will lead to prosperity, alleviate poverty, create employment opportunities for youth, and reduce violence in Owerri Zone and Imo State as a whole.
Governor Uzodimma appealed to the youth to refrain from violence, vandalism, and destructive behaviour, emphasizing that such actions will not yield positive results and will instead lead to destruction and stigmatization.
He urged leaders, youth, and women from Owerri Zone to communicate with those who may be supporting violence in Imo State, encouraging them to cease such activities and promote peace. Governor Uzodimma expressed his commitment to preserving the unity of Nigeria and appealed for unity among all to reap the benefits of a stronger nation.
