The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asserted that it remains undeterred by the accusations levelled against President Bola Tinubu by former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
According to the APC, Atiku’s animosity towards Tinubu stems from his belief that Tinubu was responsible for his electoral setbacks in 2007, 2015, 2019, and the current year. These claims were made during a press conference in Abuja by Atiku, where he based his allegations on documents obtained from Chicago State University.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC characterized Atiku’s statements as nothing more than a rehash of lies, distortions, and falsehoods in his preoccupation with scrutinizing Tinubu’s academic records.
The APC also noted that Atiku had been displaying desperation in his pursuit of the presidency, using the press conference as an attempt to influence public opinion and exert undue pressure on the Supreme Court.
The party criticized Atiku for openly discussing a matter that is currently before the Supreme Court, showing contempt for the highest court in the land. It emphasized that there is no evidence in Mr. Westberg’s deposition to suggest that President Bola Tinubu’s university degree was fake or forged.
The APC further argued that the certificate presented by President Tinubu to INEC for his election is genuine and that he could not have forged an academic qualification he rightfully earned.
The party expressed sympathy for Atiku’s repeated electoral defeats and described his recent actions as a desperate attempt to gain power despite being consistently rejected by Nigerian voters. The APC condemned Atiku’s actions and their negative impact on Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage.
In conclusion, the APC provided clarification on Mr. Caleb Westberg’s deposition, stating that he unequivocally confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s graduation with honours from Chicago State University. Additionally, Mr. Westberg clarified that the transcript, not the certificate, is the primary proof of studentship in American universities. The APC accused Atiku of using the information for mischief and blackmail rather than as evidence for his appeal at the Supreme Court, thereby demonstrating contempt for the court’s authority.
