The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has urged members to engage on a seven-day fasting and prayer session beginning Friday to seek God’s favor as the Election Appeal Tribunal considering the party’s petition gives its decision.
The panel chaired by Justice Tetse Kume has finished hearing cases submitted before it by ex-governor Adeboyega Oyetola and the APC disputing Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party’s win in the July 16, 2022 gubernatorial election.
The panel’s decision is likely by the end of January.
However, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC Acting State Chairman, stated in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Friday, “it was necessary for the party to resort to supplications after having effected everything legally allowed at the tribunal for the retrieval of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s stolen mandate in the July 16, 2022 governorship election.”
The Osun APC chief also emphasized the efficiency of prayers in achieving perfection and as a powerful barrier against the forces and principalities of the underworld.
Lawal urged APC members not to take the fasting and prayers session lightly, adding that he was confident that God will fulfill the party members’ combined requests and aspirations.
During the mandated fasting and prayer session, he also encouraged APC members to pray for the continued good health of Oyetola and his deputy, Bennedict Alabi, as well as members of their families.
He also urged them “to pray for the state for the fast restoration of its lost and diminishing grandeur amid the comity of other states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“APC members should remember to pray for the victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, and other party candidates in the February general elections.”
He said that it would be equally vital to pray against the loss of blood by those he described as “desperate and unhappy politicians” who could attempt to infuse violence into the conduct of the general elections.
