Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has decided to bring back the club’s former striker, Alexis Sanchez.
Arteta and Sanchez used to played together as teammates at Arsenal.
Sanchez has inquired about rejoining Arsenal this summer, and his representatives have already contacted the Premier League club about a possible return.
The 34-year-old’s contract with French Ligue 1 side Marseille expires at the end of the month, but the club is keen to extend it for another season.
Sanchez was a star performer for Marseille during the 2022/23 season, netting 17 goals in all competitions as the team finished third in the Ligue 1 table.
The Chilean is still keen on playing in the Champions League and has previously turned down an invitation to play in the Saudi Pro League.
Sanchez’s agent called Arteta directly to discuss a possible return to Arsenal this summer, but the Spaniard was ‘direct’ in his response to the player’s representatives and made it clear that the striker does not fit into his plans for the team going forward, according to Chilean newspaper La Tercera.
Sanchez spent just under four years with Arsenal, where he helped the North London club win two FA Cup triumphs before making a surprise transfer to Manchester United in January 2018.
