From all 20 local government areas in Ogun State, thousands of loyalists who had previously supported former governor Ibikunle Amosun have now reunited with the main body of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the current State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, extended his appreciation to the returning supporters, who were led by the factional Chairman of the Amosun-led party Executive, during their reception at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta. He commended them for their unwavering loyalty and steadfastness in upholding their beliefs.
Governor Abiodun stated, “I want to applaud your unwavering loyalty to leadership, which I find not only praiseworthy but also admirable. This is a value we should encourage and firmly establish. Sadly, it’s a value that’s gradually disappearing. Loyalty stands at 100 percent.”
“For some, they tend to move on when things aren’t going their way, but for you, you stayed the course. Such loyalty is exemplary and something we should all aspire to. It’s crucial to understand that in a political party, there can only be one leader at a time. Even when we have ambitions and aspirations, we must fully submit to leadership and believe that this submission is what will allow us to thrive and achieve our goals, dreams, and desires. It’s not achieved by forming factions or breaking away.”
The governor emphasized, “By doing so, it only weakens the unity of the party we collectively belong to. You must acknowledge that in the state, there can only be one leader of the party, and that leader is the governor.”
“As the party’s leader, I embrace the responsibilities entrusted to me, and it’s my duty to work towards the individual and collective well-being of our members.”
Governor Abiodun urged all members to put the past behind them and collaborate to strengthen the party’s position and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
He concluded, “Let’s leave the past in the past. Let’s promote the values that bind us as a family. I welcome you back. The future of Ogun State lies in our hands, and it’s within our grasp. Just as the father welcomed back his prodigal son with joy, I welcome you today.”
The Chairman of the State All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Yemi Sanusi, recognized that disagreements are a part of human relationships, even in times of conflict. He encouraged the returning members to fully integrate themselves with other party members.
The leader of the returnees, Chief Derin Adebiyi, expressed their collective commitment to rejoin the mainstream and contribute to the party’s development and the overall progress of the State. He extended gratitude to the governor and fellow party members for their warm reception.
