The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that it would not extend the registration deadline for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to NAN, JAMB registrar Ishaq Oloyede issued the warning after monitoring the registration process in Kano state on Wednesday.
Registration for this year’s UTME began on January 14 and will close on February 14.
The examination is scheduled to start on April 29 and finish on May 12.
In terms of the registration process, Oloyede stated that JAMB’s goal for the year is to register 1.8 million candidates.
He also claimed that the board had registered 500,000 candidates across the country thus far.
The JAMB registrar advised applicants to register for the UTME before the deadline as there will be no extension.
“We do not foresee an extension because around 500,000 candidates have registered out of the 1.8 million that we expect,” he added.
The news comes as the board announced the arrest of six operators of computer-based exam (CBT) centers in Kano for allegedly illegally registering candidates for the UTME.
The arrested operators, according to Oloyede, reportedly hampered the registration process, and they would be handed over to security officers for prosecution.
“JAMB will not tolerate any infringement on its registration flow by any of its approved centers’ technical staff,” he warned.
