The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), inaugurated the Governing Council, Board of Directors, and Executive Management Team of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated on Wednesday in the State House council chambers in Abuja.
Buhari charged the new Governing Council and Board during the ceremonial inauguration, which preceded this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting, with increasing the value of the MoFI’s portfolio from N18tn to N100tn ($233m) by 2033.
The President stated in his presentation that the new administration will take efforts to mobilize funds and invest them in assets important to the Federal Government’s revenue drive.
He stated that this would include reviving and restructuring non-performing assets to transform them into aggressive cashflow-generating enterprises.
According to Buhari, the inauguration of a Governing Council, Board, and Executive Management Team was essential in maximizing the returns on current assets.
The President chairs the governing council, with Dr. Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, serving as Vice Chair.
Its members include Timipre Sylva (State), Minister of Petroleum Resources; Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation; Niyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment; Mu’azu Sambo, Minister of Transportation; Dr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank; and three experts appointed by the President: Prof. Muhammad Sagagi, Dr. Ayo Teriba, and Prof. Ken Ife.
Former Finance Minister Shamsudeen Umar (Chairman), Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance and Petroleum Resources, the Federation’s Acting Accountant-General, Olawale Edun, Fatima Mede, Ike Chioke, Muhammad Nda, Alheri Nyako, and a CBN official are among the Board members.
Dr. Armstrong Takang (MD), Eric Solo (ED, Chief Portfolio Officer), Sani Yakubu (Chief Investment Officer), and Oluwakemi Owonubi are members of the Executive Management Team (Chief Risk Officer).
Following the inauguration, the President chairs the Federal Executive Council meeting.
All council members are present, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, President’s Chief of Staff Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, and Ministers and Ministers of State from various ministries.
