The Bauchi State Joint Task Force has successfully rescued 33 people who were kidnapped in the Alkaleri region of the state. This area, from which Governor Bala Mohammed originates, has been grappling with recurrent bandit attacks.
Governor Mohammed had recently expressed his deep concern about the rising incidents of abductions in the state, specifically identifying the flashpoints as Toro, Ningi, Alkaleri, and Tafawa-Balewa Local Government Areas.
In response to this alarming situation, the governor issued directives to the task force to confront the bandits and secure the release of all 33 abducted victims, who had been taken captive just a few days prior. However, as of the time of this report, there is still uncertainty regarding whether any ransom was paid.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the local government area, Comr. Bala Ibrahim Mahmoud, officially announced the liberation of the hostages to the press in Bauchi on Saturday.
He revealed that the victims were handed over to security personnel in Yalwan Duguri of Alkaleri on Friday night, following a successful operation. Mahmoud praised the rapid response of the security agencies and assured that the victims would undergo medical evaluations to confirm their well-being before further actions are taken.
