The Kwara State Police Command has urged the practitioners of the indigenous traditional religion, also known as Isese, to consider relocating their planned festival scheduled for August 20, 2023, from Kwara State to other parts of the country. The reason cited is the current unfavourable security conditions in the state.
In a statement released on Monday evening and endorsed by SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Command has engaged in discussions with the Isese worshippers, advising them to seek an alternative location in a different state within the country for their celebration.
According to the statement, “The Police Command has engaged in dialogue with local vigilantes, community policing members, local hunters, and leaders of the traditional worshippers not only from Kwara but also from neighbouring states. They have been informed that the available intelligence to the Police Command doesn’t support the proposed celebrations by one of the religious groups in the state. As a result, they have been encouraged to relocate their event to another state until a more favourable security situation arises in Kwara.”
The Command has formulated a fresh approach to promote peaceful coexistence among the populace and to curb criminal activities across the entirety of the state. This includes the implementation of a 24-hour stop-and-search operation on individuals and vehicles.
Continuing its commitment to ensure the safety and security of Kwara’s residents, the Commissioner of Police, CP. Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi psc+, FISN, convened a meeting with the heads of various security agencies in the state. This meeting aimed to evaluate the current security status and refine existing strategies, leaving no detail overlooked.
A novel security plan has been set in motion throughout Kwara State. One integral aspect is the “Harmony Security Week,” involving intensive stop-and-search procedures, both motorized and on foot, conducted round-the-clock.
The Commissioner of Police advises the citizens of Kwara State to be aware of this special security operation, encouraging them to remain composed and cooperative when encountering law enforcement officers carrying out their duties. The officers involved have received training and instructions to uphold citizens’ rights during the execution of their responsibilities.
In conclusion, the Command sternly cautions potential lawbreakers under any guise to avoid Kwara State. It warns that any individual found posing a threat to security will face arrest and legal action.
