Stephanie Linus, the renowned figure in Nollywood, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Nigerian Official Selection Committee, (NOSC). This committee is responsible for selecting the Best International Feature Film nominee from Nigeria for the prestigious Academy Awards, widely known as the Oscars.
The announcement of Stephanie’s appointment as chairperson came shortly after the founder of NOSC, Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi, officially stepped down from her position. Chineze’s decision to resign followed her successful efforts in ensuring the re-approval of NOSC by the Oscars, in preparation for the 96th edition of the Academy Awards scheduled for 2024.
This development followed the endorsement of a revamped 14-member NOSC team by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), following the departure of the previous chairperson.
Among the newly constituted NOSC members are notable individuals such as Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC); veteran Nollywood actress, Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde; Dr. Victor Okhai, President of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN); Mr. Andy Amenechi, former President of DGN; Yibo Koko, a distinguished theater practitioner; and Izu Ojukwu, a writer/director, among others.
