Former American recording artist Robert Sylvester Kelly, popularly known as R Kelly, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
On Thursday, United States District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber sentenced the 56-year-old to 20 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of child pornography and enticement of a minor.
Kelly, who was guilty of child assault of a minor in a federal trial in 2022 after being found guilty of three counts of producing child pornography and three counts of enticing a minor to participate in unlawful sexual activity.
The prosecution presented concrete video evidence showing the artist sexually assaulting his 14-year-old goddaughter in the most recent guilty verdict.
R. Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a U.S. District Court on Thursday, with 19 of those 20 years served concurrently with his previous term, less of the 25 years sought by the prosecutors. While the remaining year would be served consecutively or after the completion of that sentence.
“Robert Kelly is a serial sexual predator who, over the years, targeted young girls and went to great measures to hide his abuse of Jane and other underage victims,” the prosecutors said. Kelly has refused to accept responsibility for his misdeeds since the jury’s conviction against him.”
The singer, on the other hand, stayed silent for almost the entire sentence hearing.
