Despite ending their strike, strong indications suggest that the National Association of Resident Doctors, along with other medical professionals, might resume a new protest due to the kidnapping of Neurologist Prof Ephraim Ekanem on July 13, 2023.
The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Uche Ojinmah, has issued a seven-day ultimatum, expiring this Friday, for the safe rescue of Prof Ekanem. Ojinmah revealed this in an interview with reporters in Calabar on Saturday, emphasizing that tougher actions would be taken if the deadline is not met.
The armed men who abducted Prof Ekanem had posed as patients at her residence in Calabar. Ojinmah urged the Cross River State Government to proactively ensure citizen safety and prevent further harm to the state’s image. The NMA also made an appeal to the kidnappers for the safe return of the abducted doctor.
