The wife of Nigeria’s president, Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed checks totaling over N427 million to the widows and orphans of fallen heroes from the Armed Forces nationwide. Oluremi made the presentation during a ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, highlighting that this initiative is part of the Social Investment Programme under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
As the National Chairman of RHI, Oluremi emphasized that the gesture is not only a tribute to the sacrifices of the fallen heroes but also a means to empower their widows and children who have endured significant challenges. The financial support, totaling N250,000 each, is intended to enable the beneficiaries to invest in existing businesses or start new ventures to care for their families.
Oluremi acknowledged the strength and resilience of the widows, stating that they are survivors who have demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of adversity. The donation of N427,250,000 was made to the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), representing the cumulative sum of individual draft cheques.
The path of a military wife, Oluremi noted, is challenging, marked by uncertainty, sacrifice, and a constant awareness of inherent risks. She commended the women who have stood by their husbands with unwavering support and love, enduring the pain of losing loved ones in the line of duty.
Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, praised the thoughtful gesture towards the wives of fallen heroes, highlighting that it demonstrates a high priority for the welfare of women and the Armed Forces. He emphasized that the initiative brings renewed hope to the families of departed soldiers, acknowledging the sacrifices made by these special women who held their homes while their husbands carried out their duties.
Mrs. Oghogho Musa, President of DEPOWA and the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, expressed gratitude for the event, emphasizing its significance in showing solidarity and kindness to the widows and orphans of fallen heroes. She commended the first lady for her commitment to addressing the challenges faced by special individuals in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
