Prince Afolabi Ghandi Laoye, the former pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) located in Jesus House, Washington DC, United States, has been officially declared as the new Soun of Ogbomosoland. The kingmakers conducted a ceremonial enthronement of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso, which was met with cheers and praise from the gathered crowd as he assumed the historic throne of his predecessors.
His arrival in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, for the ritual rites and formal installation as the new Soun took place on a Friday. Prince Afolabi Ghandi Laoye was chosen by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the previous Saturday to fill the traditional role that had remained vacant since the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III on December 12, 2021.
Prince Laoye made his arrival in Ogbomoso in the early hours of the morning, arriving in a private helicopter that landed at Ogbomoso Grammar School before proceeding to the palace.
Last week, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, Olusegun Olayiwola, officially announced the selection of Prince Laoye by the governor, following the exhaustive processes prescribed by law.
The statement also included a congratulatory message from Governor Seyi Makinde, extending his best wishes to the newly elected Soun on his historic ascent to the throne of his ancestors.
