Bursars in Ekiti State public secondary schools have been entrusted with cultivating a positive mentality capable of increasing effective and efficient financial management in schools.
Mr Michael Omolayo, Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, made the charge during an interactive meeting with the Bursars at Christ School, Ado Ekiti.
Omolayo characterized bursars as vital players in school finance management and urged them to cultivate harmonious working relationships with their principals to ensure openness and accountability.

While admonishing them to return government gestures by hard effort and devotion to tasks, Omolayo promised them of training that would ensure efficiency in the fulfillment of their duties.
Mr Babatunde Adesola, Permanent Secretary Bureau of Central Internal Audit, highlighted in his presentation that auditing is about due process, which would not tolerate transgressions, and that all money should be prudently spent and accounted for.
He emphasized that there should always be delegation of tasks and that hierarchy be observed.
He urged them to read the financial administration book to familiarize themselves with the job’s laws and regulations.
Adesola emphasized that bursars are sub-accounting officials who represent the State Accountant General at secondary schools and are tasked with the reception, custody, and disbursement of public monies.
In his answer, Rotimi Akinwande, State Chairman of the Conference of Bursars of Secondary Schools (COBUSS), complimented the interactive session and assured that they would re-dedicate themselves to duty and do their best to justify the government’s faith in them.
He requested more training workshops and seminars for them, as well as security staff at schools.
