The Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, ordained and installed Most Rev. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido as Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Warri in Delta State today.
Pope Francis, represented by Bishop Anthony Filipazzi, ordained and installed Bishop Ewherido in the Bishop’s Court, Holy Martyrs Seminary in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State.
In a homily, Filipazzi told Ewherido that the position he currently holds is not one of prestige or distinction, but one of service.
He stated that he is in a position to manage and control the affairs of the diocese.
“He is to protect the holy order and shepherd the flock of Christ,” Bishop Filipazzi said.
“All I have to say in answer is, Thank you Lord, and to you be the glory now and forevermore,” Bishop Anthony Ovayero Ewherido stated in his speech. Amen.”
As the 2023 elections approach, he encouraged Nigerians to pray for a peaceful, fair, and credible election in the country.
He also urged the general public to avoid corruption.
“Don’t sell your birthright,” he says. Vote rightly.”
Bishop Ewherido expressed his gratitude to God for his ordination and installation as Bishop of Warri Diocese.
He promised to serve God by working with the members of the church.
Archbishop Augustine Akabueze, the interim Archbishop of Benin Diocese, has urged Nigerians to vote in the forthcoming elections.
