Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje met with bank managers, representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, security agencies, and other stakeholders on Thursday for an interactive session in an effort to find a long-term solution to the suffering caused by a lack of new naira notes and long queues in banks.
This was mentioned in a statement provided to journalists on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar.
According to Anwar, the meeting took place at Africa House, Government House, Kano, during which the governor stated that the poor implementation of the naira redesign strategy is a “sign of sabotage.”
“The policy is good, but the implementation is poor and untimely. Poor implementation is either an indication of incompetence or sabotage,” Anwar cited Ganduje as saying.
Ganduje went on to say that the implementation was not targeted at economic progress, but at eroding democracy and producing widespread uncertainty.
“Our main worry and difficulty is policy implementation. Not the policy in and of itself. If you wish to execute such a policy, you must first educate the public and engage stakeholders before proceeding to the implementation stage.” As a leader, you must examine numerous factors before implementing any policy. People are in pain.
“You cannot properly implement a policy without sufficient preparation for it. If you wish to implement this type of policy, you need powerful institutions.”
He reaffirmed that the Kano State Government will continue to push for the proper implementation of the new naira policy.
“Probably the persons targeted by the poor implementation of this policy are not even suffering like other citizens. Something must be done to alleviate the suffering of our people.
He also pledged that while people continue to struggle, the state government plans to flood the streets with buses that would transport people to main places in the state for free.
