Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, has written an emotional letter to his supporters, termed “Obidients.”
Obi, who finished third in the recently ended presidential election, said he and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, were aware that his supporters had faced vituperations, physical attacks, loss of rights and privileges, as well as nasty trolls, indignities, and vexatious fighting words.
His remark was made in a series of tweets on Monday via his verified Twitter profile, and it follows an alleged audio conversation between him and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church.
Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, has also accused Baba-Ahmed of making a treason remark.
Even those whom they had long regarded as civic leaders and the conscience of the nation, according to Obi, were involved in attacking his supporters.
He urged people to accept attacks as necessary sacrifices in order to create a better Nigeria.
While asking the ‘Obidients’ not to back down or be drawn into unneeded conflicts, Obi assured them that his team is fully focused, structured, and steadfast in solving the country’s afflictions.
The former Anambra State governor went on to say that he and Baba-Ahmed would utilize all legal and peaceful means allowed by law and the constitution to regain their mandate to build a new Nigeria.
“My Obedients, a very happy Holy Month of Easter and Ramadan to you all,” he said in part. As we celebrate Easter and look forward to a joyous Eid El Fitr, we pray for God Almighty’s guidance, protection, and blessings as we face and pass through a litany of challenges in our dear country, Nigeria-flawed electoral processes, insecurity, weak institutions, multidimensional poverty, unemployment, inflation, a lack of justice, fairness, equity, and opportunities, among others.
“As we reflect on these challenges and look forward to a New Nigeria that is POssible, Datti and I are painfully aware that most of you have suffered vituperations, physical attacks, loss of rights and privileges, hateful trolls, indignities, and vexatious fighting words simply for being OBIdient, even from those we have long regarded as civic leaders and conscience of our nation.” Please accept such assaults as the sacrifices that we must all make in order to create a New Nigeria where justice, equity, fairness, love, and prosperity prevail.”
