The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has suspended its National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu. The Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area, LGA, in Benue state suspended Dr. Ayu.
Speaking to the media on behalf of Ward Chairman Kashi Philip, Ward Secretary Mr. Vangeryina Dooyum said that Dr. Ayu was suspended by the Executive for alleged anti-party activities.
The Secretary said, reading from a text signed by 12 of the 17 member Ward Executive, that the decision to suspend the National Chairman was reached after the leadership examined his actions at the conclusion of the recently concluded general elections.
“We observed with utmost dismay that, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the PDP, worked against the success of the party in Igyorov Council Ward,” the Secretary remarked, flanked by the Chairman and other members.
“It is also on record that he has failed to pay his Yearly Membership Fees as provided under the Section 8 (9) of the PDP 2017 constitution” (As Amended).
“Additional inquiry indicated that he did not vote in the March 18, 2023 Governorship and State Assembly Elections.”
“It was also discovered that the most of his closest allies worked for the opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, explaining the PDP’s dismal result in Igyorov Ward.”
“In view of this, we hereby vote no confidence in Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and suspend him as a member of our party immediate effect.” The suspension takes effect on March 24, 2023.”
