The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the Judgement of the governorship election tribunal, which upheld the election of Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia as the governor of Benue State.
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Makurdi, on Saturday, dismissed the petition filed by the PDP and its gubernatorial candidate, Titus Uba, challenging the victory of Alia from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The tribunal cited the petition as being legally insufficient.
In response to the tribunal’s decision, the Benue State chapter of the PDP issued a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom. The statement conveyed the party’s disagreement with the verdict, asserting that it did not meet the standards of substantive justice and was not in compliance with existing electoral laws, guidelines, and regulations.
The PDP has consequently instructed its legal team to appeal the ruling at the Court of Appeal in Abuja within the legally specified timeframe. The party also called upon its supporters throughout the state to remain composed and optimistic, as they believe that despite the potentially lengthy journey to justice, the goal of reclaiming the governorship mandate will ultimately be achieved.
