The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has strongly criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for appointing himself as the Commissioner of Works. The Osun APC also expressed concern over the allocation of commissioners to various ministries, stating that it displayed clear cases of unfit individuals being placed in important roles. The party warned that such decisions could lead to a monumental catastrophe.
In a statement issued by Tajudeen Lawal, the Osun APC Chairman, the party questioned the rationale behind the Governor appointing himself as commissioner, attributing it to greed and a lack of willingness for accountability and transparency. Lawal pointed out that there was a real unnamed commissioner for works who has been handling government files alongside the Governor’s chaperon, raising concerns about transparency and decision-making in the administration.
The appointment of the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, as the head of the Ministry of Sports and Special Needs was also criticized by the APC. They argued that there were qualified individuals within the party who had contributed significantly to its success during the elections, making the choice questionable.
The party also expressed doubts about the appointment of lawyers to head the Ministries of Education and Health, suggesting that there were more suitable candidates for these positions.
While acknowledging that a few commissioners on the list had distinguished themselves in their respective fields, the APC raised concerns about the competence of some others. They highlighted that three commissioners appeared unable to correctly write down the names of their assigned ministries.
It should be noted that Governor Adeleke swore in 25 commissioners and three permanent secretaries on Wednesday, urging them to prioritize real service to the people. The Ministry of Works was assigned to the Office of the Governor, while the Ministry of Sports and Special Needs was given to the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi.
