The Igbo main socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged governors in the Southeast to join their Anambra counterpart, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, in calling on the Federal government to free Nnamdi Kanu.
Chief Damian Okeke -Ogene, Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, stated in a press statement issued in Awka that the release of the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, will put an end to the turmoil in the zone.
Okeke-Ogene urged all stakeholders in the zone to join the struggle to free Kanu and restore normalcy to Igbo land.
He stated that the Governors’ collaborative efforts will aid in addressing the region’s difficulties.
“We applaud Soludo for his great political resolve in demanding the unconditional release of the arrested Biafra activist and agreeing to stand as his guarantee.
“Such action has further proved his dedication in advocating the cause of Ndigbo and preserving the interests of the people, not only in Anambra State, but the whole Southeast zone.
“The request should be endorsed and repeated by other stakeholders in Igboland, as represented in the positions of late Mbazulike Amechi and late Ohaneze President, Prof George Obiozor.
“We call on the governors of the South East to endorse the appeal of Soludo.
“The Federal Government has no legal or moral basis to continue detaining the IPOB leader after a court of competent jurisdiction ordered his release.”
