The Senate declared on Tuesday that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would not be forgiven for failing to hold credible general elections.
The Red Chamber even revealed that the administration, in collaboration with the legislature, provided the finances and resources needed for smooth elections.
At plenary, Senate President Ahmad Lawan also instructed the electoral umpire to ensure that the polls be less contentious and acceptable to a wider range of Nigerians, regardless of party affiliation.
In his words, INEC has received all it has requested from the legislature to help organize a credible election, and “excuses will not be tolerated.”
Furthermore, Lawan stated that security forces have agreed to create a trouble-free electoral atmosphere for voters to exercise their right to vote.
As a result, he advised Nigerians to take advantage of the INEC-mandated collecting window for Permanent Voters Cards, or PVCs, in order to exercise their franchise.
He said that the 2023 election is intended to reshape the country’s destiny by electing leaders at all levels, from national to state.
