Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, urged corps members against embarking on unauthorised travels, emphasizing that they may jeopardize their security, during his first visit to the Kaduna Orientation Camp.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the DG’s visit on Saturday was his first since taking office on January 30.
Addressing the 2023 Batch “A” stream “I” corps members undergoing orientation at the Government College, Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna, Ahmed stated that illegal trips will result in fines as stipulated in the scheme’s Acts.
He stated that his government will continue to promote the welfare and security of corps members.
The DG particularly advised corps members not to engage in political debates, but rather to act as neutral electoral officials, observing electoral regulations during the next 2023 general election.
He also advised them not to share camp activities on social media and encouraged them to file concerns with the scheme’s management.
The NYSC chief executive also asked corps members to leave positive legacies in their primary assignments and host communities.
Earlier, in his camp situation report, Mr. Agbor Obim, the State’s Coordinator of the NYSC, stated that a total of 1,077 corps members, including 407 males and 679 females, were enrolled in the camp.
He stated that the corps members were completely engaged in camp activities and noted some of the problems, such as the high cost of products and services, the increase in the price of fuel, and limited housing, among others.
According to NAN, the DG gave the corps members a cow, 200 plastic chairs, and ten standing fans during the orientation camp.
The DG’s visit to the camp clinic and dormitories, as well as a demonstration of ethnic dances by corps members, were highlights of the program.
When the three corps members were on their way from Yobe to Anambra for their national service, they were involved in a car accident in Kaduna.
Ahmed wished them a speedy recovery and thanked the hospital’s administration for their excellent care.
