There is serious vote buying by leading political parties in the Ogbaru Federal Constituency supplementary election in Anambra State. This is as three of the leading political parties in the election have also unleashed thugs in various parts of the local government where the election is being conducted. Many voting centres visited by DAILY POST correspondent within the local government, witnessed huge influx of thugs, despite the massive deployment of security officials, including police, navy and army personnel.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance, or APGA, was in power at the time, and at Manus Primary School in Okpoko Ward 6, suspected thugs who were purportedly working for the PDP candidate in the election attacked journalists who were traveling in a car with a government license plate.
Agents of the PDP and APGA were also seen in their camps in Okpoko Ward 3, Polling Unit 004 at St Luke’s Anglican Church, where they were giving money to voters.
Mr. Sunny David, a journalist, was confused by PDP canvassers for a voter and put in line for payment after agreeing to their inquiries that he voted for their party.
The top three contenders in the race are Afam Ogene of the LP, Chuchu Onyema of the PDP, and Hon. Arinze Awogu of the APGA.
