Igbo attorneys caution politicians not to attack Obi

The Igbo Lawyers Association (ILA) on Friday warned some individuals it described as dishonest politicians to stop demonizing Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP).

Victor Onweremmadu, coordinator of ILA, who issued the warning, said that the organization had closely observed the attacks on Obi ever since he made the decision to seek the Presidential Election Tribunal in an effort to reclaim a mandate he thought had been stolen from him.

He expressed disappointment that all ILA efforts to persuade young Igbos that the “One Nigeria Project” was feasible and possible were currently being undermined by some ethnic jingoists and religious bigots who are using Obi’s decision to reclaim his mandate to express covert animosity toward Ndigbo.

Lawyers from Igbo have expressed their opinion on Peter Obi. We’ve also issued a warning to dishonest politicians who are attempting to discredit Peter Obi and generally work against Igbo interests.

We have been listening to what they say. We have been watching what they do. However, students must understand that other ethnic groups have held positions of leadership in our nation. Everyone, including our brethren in the South-South, has had a turn.

The majority of Nigerians cast their ballots for Peter Obi across the board, but the ruling class opted to manipulate the results in favor of the APC.ILA is issuing a strong warning, stating that we have done our utmost to encourage our people to support One Nigeria. We have made every effort to calm down irate individuals and win their support for the established order and the One Nigeria concept.

However, what they are doing to the Igbos in this Nigeria is forcing us to question if we truly belong in this nation and to start considering our own. Peter Obi has our full backing, Onweremmadu declared.
