Dr. Ibrahim Goni, the Conservator-General (C-G) of the National Park Service (NPS), announced that the National Assembly had granted approval for the commencement of 10 new national parks across the country. This declaration was made during a ceremony held in Abuja, where seven officers of the NPS were decorated.
Goni expressed his satisfaction, stating, ‘I am pleased to inform you that the National Assembly has officially sanctioned the creation of these new national parks. This development paves the way for the imminent commencement of operations within these parks, thereby expanding the scope of our service. It also signifies increased opportunities for our officers to assume higher responsibilities and advance in their careers.’
He further reassured the recently promoted officers and all other NPS personnel of a supportive environment that allows them to unleash their full potential. Goni elaborated on the various initiatives in place to foster their growth, such as regular training programs, conferences, seminars, and study tours. He emphasized the critical role of capable leadership within the organization, highlighting the significance of competent personnel in achieving institutional goals and plans.
Goni encouraged the newly promoted officers to reciprocate by executing their duties diligently and maintaining the highest professional standards. He concluded with the adage, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected.’
Assistant Conservator-General (ACG) Mohammed Kabir, from the Ecology and Resource Department in NPS, explained that promotions in the service serve two purposes: recognizing excellence and motivating individuals, as well as administratively rewarding and compensating competent personnel for their contributions toward fulfilling the service’s mandate. He urged the newly promoted officers to remain dedicated to their responsibilities.
In response, Conservator of Parks (CP) Dinatu Samuel, speaking on behalf of the seven CPs, expressed their joy at the promotions. She conveyed their gratitude to the C-G for enabling them to reach this milestone in their careers and assured the service of their unwavering commitment to achieving the organization’s mandate.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that a total of 75 officers within the service received promotions at several levels.
