PSG stars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé were recognized on the annual Time 100 list, which recognizes the most influential people of the year, as athletes whose accomplishments far beyond their star status on the playing field.

The French soccer superstar, the Argentinian soccer legend, Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner, World Tennis Association No. 1 women’s player Iga Witek, women’s alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes were all included on Time magazine’s list for 2023, which was released on Thursday.

Mbappé, 24, is perhaps the best soccer player in the world and is only getting better.

He has been on the verge of winning FIFA and soccer’s most coveted individual honors, but following a strong performance at the 2022 World Cup, in which he scored half of France’s 16 goals, he established himself as one of the sport’s most dangerous players.

But given his advanced age, it is sense that Mbappé may still compete in up to three more World Cups. Mbappé proved that he is a player who can dominate a game, even on the largest stage, with his commanding performance in the final.

Messi’s pure skill with the ball at his feet helped to establish a style of playmaking that many from other countries have tried to imitate since.

Though Messi, who was recently serenaded outside a Buenos Aires steakhouse when social media indicated that he was eating there, has undoubtedly become the most popular sports figure in his or her native nation. Messi is still popular and arguably the most well-known athlete in the world at the age of 35.
