On Tuesday, the Lagos State Government revealed plans to build houses on water in order to attract tourists and provide a world-class environment for residents of the Isale Akoka Community.
Isale Akoka is a riverine hamlet in the state’s Somolu Local Government Area.
The assurance was given by Ajibike Shomade, General Manager of the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, in a statement signed by Mrs. Adeola Olagoke, Head of the agency’s Public Affairs Unit.
Shomade made the assurance during a courtesy call from some Isale Akoka residents.
The general manager underlined the state government’s commitment in providing residents with a world-class living environment.
Shomade, a town planner, stated that the state government envisioned creating a world-class environment that would attract tourists from all over the world.
“Our vision is to create a world-class environment for the Isale Akoka Community, such as houses on water as those seen in Cape Verde, to attract tourists from all over the world.”
“It is a long-term project that will benefit the community and be an achievement to the state government.”
“The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has graciously approved the construction of roads for accessibility, as seen on Oremeji Street, Alhaji Yinusa Street, and Ajayi Olaiya Street,” she stated.
She assured of her constant involvement in the development of the physical plan for the area that would bring her vision to fulfillment.
Earlier, Chief Olufemi Adebanjo, Loye 1, the Traditional Head of Isale Akoka, thanked the government for keeping its electoral promises.
He stated that residents started seeing contractors at work in the community.
He expressed his congratulations to the governor and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, on their re-election.
Mr Seun Awobajo, the founder of Foot Print of David, who was recognized for his free educational and social services to pupils in Isale Akoka and neighboring towns.
