The Islamic body, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has said that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has no authority to rename the restored Adogba Central Mosque in Iwo Road Ibadan after himself, which his administration demolished in 2020.
MURIC has warned Makinde to remove his name from the mosque before the governorship election next Saturday.
Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Executive Director of MURIC, revealed this in a statement on Saturday.
“Our attention has been brought to the name of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, which has been clearly written on the recently restored Adogba Central Mosque, Iwo Road, Ibadan,” Akintola stated. That is a slap in the face to the Muslim community of Oyo State, in particular, and the whole Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.
“Makinde has no moral right to name the mosque after himself because it was built to replace the original mosque, which he demolished.
“MURIC encouraged the governor to execute the change before the gubernatorial election on Saturday to avoid a protest vote.
“That’s not his property. It’s an attempt to change the course of history.”
