To mark Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day anniversary, the Federal Government has officially designated Monday, October 2, 2023, as a public holiday. The announcement was made in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government. This declaration was conveyed through a statement released by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo affirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to addressing the various challenges confronting the nation, emphasizing that these challenges encompass both socio-economic and security issues, which are not unique to Nigeria but are global in nature.
The minister stated, “It is widely recognized that difficult socio-economic and security challenges are pervasive worldwide, and Nigeria is no exception. The government is actively making continuous efforts to confront these multifaceted challenges with all the resources at its disposal until a solution is attained.”
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also stressed that the nation’s potential for greatness is attainable when all citizens collaborate in unity. He highlighted Nigeria’s welcoming spirit, love, abundant human capital, and the richness of its land, making it the leading black nation globally and Africa’s source of pride, symbolizing hope for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
In extending warm wishes for a memorable Independence Day celebration, the Minister recalled the unity of Nigeria’s founding fathers, who, despite differences in faith, ethnicity, and language, united for the cause of Nigeria’s freedom, which the nation enjoys today.
The Minister further assured that the current administration, guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda, is dedicated to creating a better Nigeria for all citizens as a fitting tribute to the nation’s past heroes.”
