Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has generously rewarded four players hailing from the state who were players of the Super Falcons team that competed in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. He granted each player $10,000 and additionally pledged to provide them with plots of land in desirable locations within the state.
This announcement was made by Governor Uzodinma during an event hosted at the state house in Owerri on Tuesday. The players who received these honors are Desire Okparanozie, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Tochukwu Oluehi, and Ohale Osinachi.
The Super Falcons were unfortunately eliminated from the tournament last week after a penalty shootout resulted in a 4-2 loss to the Lionesses, following a spirited performance against the European champions. Despite the outcome, Governor Uzodinma praised the quartet for their commendable representation of both the state and the country on the international stage.
Addressing the players’ accomplishments, Governor Uzodinma expressed, “It is my duty to provide you with the necessary support and encouragement for your careers. We are officially welcoming you, and we believe you deserve to be recognized by your state government. We acknowledge your outstanding representation of our state and nation.”
The governor continued, “To show our support, I am pleased to offer each of you a plot of land within the state and a cash reward of $10,000.”
Governor Uzodinma ensured that the players were given the opportunity to choose their preferred locations for the land plots, and he stated that the monetary rewards would be presented to them after the meeting.
It’s worth noting that earlier in July, Governor Uzodinma had provided a sum of N30 million to six players from Imo State who had participated in the 2022 Africa Women’s Championship (AWCON) as members of the Super Falcons team.
