Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved August 20th as Isese Day, an annual observance in the state. The announcement was made by Makinde on Friday.
In recent years, adherents of the traditional religion in the state have advocated for their own recognized public holiday. They specifically requested the state government to declare August 20th as a public holiday to honour the Isese day.
Responding to this demand, the governor has now acceded to the request of the traditional religion adherents. He has officially declared that August 20th, 2023 will mark the inaugural public holiday to commemorate the Isese day. Furthermore, he has stipulated that each subsequent August 20th will be observed as a public holiday to honour the Isese day in the state.
The governor’s proclamation was conveyed through a statement issued by Professor Olanike Adeyemo, the Secretary to the Oyo State Government. In this statement, the governor encouraged practitioners of the traditional religion across the state to utilize this occasion to offer prayers for the prosperity, harmony, and cohesion of the state as well as the entire nation.
