Addressing the ongoing debate surrounding the appointment of a Senior Special Assistant for the Government House Pool and Oranmiyan New Town, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State clarified that these positions were initiated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
This clarification was made in response to the circulation of a memo dated August 9, 2023, announcing the appointment of Oyetunji Rasaki Abefe as the SSA to the Governor on Government House Pool. The notification was issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye.
In a statement released on Friday by the State governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, it was explained that the term “Government House Pool” refers to the transport unit of the Government House. This division is responsible for managing drivers and vehicles within the Government House. Notably, this office, which has been in existence for around twelve years, was established by previous administrations under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The statement emphasized the necessity and relevance of both appointments, highlighting that they are not frivolous roles for political purposes, as some critics have suggested. It was emphasized that while these offices were inherited, Governor Adeleke has demonstrated a commitment to retaining beneficial elements and discarding those that are not favorable.
In relation to these appointments, the statement reiterated the importance of the positions in safeguarding and efficiently managing both public and private assets. It concluded by highlighting Governor Adeleke’s intention to uphold valuable components while enhancing governance practices.
